Selecting & Applying Labels/Decals Invision® resins are based on enhanced polyolefin compositions that have been specifically designed to provide high performance for sheet extrusion and thermoforming applications. Invision resins can be categorized within the thermoplastic olefin family of polymers. Due to the olefinic nature of the resin, it is critical to use the correct type of decal/label system in order to achieve proper adhesion and required durability properties. A suggested label/decal system, supplier information, and a general procedure for label/decal application are described below. General Label Information and Application Procedure Follow the label application procedure provided by the label supplier for the specific label system selected. A number of label systems are available in the market. Therefore, in order to select the most cost effective label system, the facestock, liner, printing, and durability requirements should be reviewed with the label suppliers applications department. As an example, A. Schulman Inc. internal laboratory testing has shown that label adhesive P1480 (3M) provides optimal adhesion to Invision resins. 3M provides various label systems that utilize this type of adhesive. It is recommended that the label system selected is tested in the intended application. General Decal Information and Application Procedure Follow the decal application procedure provided by the decal supplier for the specific decal system selected. A number of decal systems are available in the market. Therefore, in order to select the most cost effective decal system, the application requirements should be reviewed with the decal suppliers applications department. Note, in addition to the decal stock type, various UV resistant inks and protective coatings are also available to further improve outdoor durability of the selected decal system. As an example, A. Schulman Inc. internal laboratory testing has shown that the pressure sensitive adhesive used with Scotchcal Graphic film 3670LF provides optimal adhesion to Invision resins. Scotchcal 3670LF utilizes a polyethylene coated layflat liner and a white vinyl facestock which can only be used with screen printing. For specific recommendations, please contact the applications department of your decal supplier. It is recommended that the decal system selected is tested in the intended application.
